Everyday Brain Activities

Gentle activities to support routine, confidence and enjoyment after brain injury.

MAKE IT PERSONAL

Choose activities the person enjoys and adapt them to their energy, interests, abilities, and care plan. Keep activities relaxed and enjoyable.

Offer one activity at a time, allow plenty of time, and stop or take a break if the person becomes tired, frustrated, or uncomfortable.

Ask their rehabilitation or healthcare team for individual advice.

IDEAS TO TRY

1. WORDS & READING — read a short article, name items in a category, or enjoy a word puzzle together.
2. MEMORY & ROUTINE use a calendar to plan the day, look through familiar photos, or make a simple shopping list.
3. MUSIC & CREATIVITY — listen to a favourite song, sing along, draw, colour, or do a simple craft.
4. EVERYDAY PROBLEM-SOLVING — sort laundry by colour, follow a familiar recipe with suitable support, or match socks.
5. CONVERSATION & CONNECTION — talk about a favourite memory, share news, or play a simple turn-taking game.
6. MOVEMENT & FRESH AIR — if suitable and approved in the care plan, enjoy a short supported walk or gentle activity recommended by the care team.
A SIMPLE DAILY ROUTINE

Pick one or two activities. Offer a choice. Prepare what is needed. Do the activity together at a comfortable pace. Notice what the person enjoys and share useful observations with the family or care team, with consent.
